About us
The Association of Independent Broadcast Media of Kosovo represents the interests of leading commercial broadcasters in Kosovo. Our role is to protect and to promote the interests of the Kosovo’s private broadcasters.
We engage with the institutions to achieve a balanced and appropriate regulatory framework which will encourage further investment and growth in our sector.
AMPEK is committed to creating an adequate legal framework for the independent media and is always engaged in the development and implementation of the application of laws concerning media, as a first step towards the establishment of equal broadcasting opportunities and freedom of media.
The Association of Independent Electronic Media of Kosovo (AMPEK) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting media freedom and diversity in Kosovo. It was founded in August 2001 by 19 owners, managers and directors of independent electronic media of Kosovo. AMPEK is made for and of users of the new media industry, where members can strengthen their skills, expand their networks and most importantly, learn from each other.
The new media industry has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years and will continue to grow exponentially as new technologies are developed and perfected. In order that the independent electronic media of Kosovo keep up with the technological revolution, AMPEK will represent and advocate the interests of its members, and will develop networks and establish cooperation channels among local and international media organizations.
The main objectives of AMPEK are:
- Promotion of free, independent and professional activities of all private owned electronic media.
- Accomplishment of overall activities and technical cooperation within Association members.
- Support on establishing, maintaining and development of technical ground of the members.
- Support on organizing and coordinating the program cooperation between members.
- Professional staff training and professional improvement of its member’s performance.
- Foster and develop technological programming production and overall performance on members own organizations.
- Providing legal, technical and other aid for the needs of its own members.
- Prevention of any form of disloyal competition between members
- Representation of the members interests in front of relevant authorities.
- To improve, develop and maintain the various forms of cooperation with similar organizations abroad.
- Activities:
- Progress through advocacy campaigns and initiatives for the rights and interests of independent media broadcasting business
- Campaigns to raise awareness about all the laws and issues that affect media in any way
- Development and improvement of advocacy initiatives
- Legal assistance program for AMPEK members
- Enhancement of professional capacities and technological development of media in Kosovo (Media professionalism enhancement program)
AMPEK was engaged in the development and enhancement of media professional standards through the education of managers, journalists, technicians etc. AMPEK has provided several training programs. Trainings were available on the most exigent areas that were identified by the existing reports and the individual contacts with media and their representatives.
Training of managers, conducted so far were focused on commercial management, (as a key element of self-sustaining and profitable business), marketing and market research, (the use of market research to improve sales and marketing and increase profit). Whereas training of editors and journalists were organized in cooperation with the Associations of Journalists. The focus of these trainings was and will be placed in future on training of trainers.

Structure:
AMPEK has a well-defined organizational and managerial structure. It is directed by a five-member board of directors and is managed by the Executive Director of the association.
Board is responsible for the control and management of the affairs and property of the Association. The Board always acts in accordance with the purposes of the Association.
The home office of AMPEK is located in Pristina.
At the present AMPEK represents the interest of virtually 85 private broadcasters in Kosovo territory.
The Association shall include as its members all legal entities that hold one or more licenses issued by the Independent Media Commission (IMC) to broadcast television and/or radio programs.
